Tortilla Land Uncooked Flour Tortillas

Here's another product favorite - Tortilla Land uncooked flour tortillas, available at Costco and other fine stores. We use these so much that we almost always have them on hand. They are, of course, uncooked tortillas that you can brown yourself on a frying pan. This gives you perfect fresh made tortillas without any special equipment, and without the time and effort it would take to make them yourself.

We use these at least weekly for burritos, Mexican salads, breakfast burritos, and other delicacies. They're easy to prepare. So easy, in fact, that the kids compete over who gets to cook them. Here's what they look like in progress:

The tortilla pan is actually another of my favorite products, but I think we found it in a bin in one of the local Mexican markets, so I can't really tell you where to buy it.

  1. For smaller families, you can freeze one of the two inside packages and defrost as needed. I LOVE these!

  2. I've had other people recommend these uncooked tortillas as well, so I'll have to give them a try. But as someone who hasn't done much cooking with tortillas, can you recommend some easy ways to use them? What do you put in your breakfast burritos? What kinds of easy quesadillas do you make? Any other ways that you commonly use these?

  3. Great questions, Kip. For breakfast burriots, we cook breakfast sausage (not links), scrambled eggs (one egg per person), diced onions, diced tomatoes, grated cheese and some salsa to hold it all together. Sometimes we also put hash browns or breakfast potatoes in for extra filler.

Quesadillas are a tiny bit tricky--cook one side of each tortilla. Then put the raw side down on the pan, layer grated cheese (plus whatever else you like--leftover taco meat or other seasoned meat is great) and top with the other raw tortilla side to the outside. Flip the tortilla over when the downside of the tortilla begins to brown. Cook until the top side is brown and (hopefully) the cheese is melted.

They're also great for enchiladas, but you do have to pre-cook the tortillas on both sides before you fill and bake them. And burritos are straightforward--we put everything from seasoned hamburger to grilled carne asada from the Mexican market in them. To make them wet, warm up a can of enchilada sauce and spoon it over the finished product.

I'll try to do some posts in the near future on other things we've made with them.
